Michael visted Italy in December 2018, travelling and staying with family from Gaverati in the nothern lake district to Ragusa in Sicily.in the south. Upon his return to Melbourne he immediately embarked on a series of quite large canvases which celebrate the historicity of italy and the immediacey of light. The work is imbued with the clear bright winter light of Italy so different to the glaring Australian summer.
